Service FAQ

Why can’t I get my A/C below 70 degrees? It’s 100 degrees outside!
If I turn my thermostat all the way down, will it cool my house faster?
Can I run my A/C or heat without having maintenance done?
How often do I need to replace the air filter in my HVAC system?
The frequency with which you should replace your air filter depends on your house and the amount of contaminants (e.g., pet hair, cigarette smoke) in the air. We recommend checking the air filter at least once a month and changing as needed.
How often do I need to perform maintenance on my HVAC system? Why do I need to do this?
Your home heating and cooling systems are an investment, and they put forth an extreme amount of effort. In the summer and winter months, your home cooling and heating system can cycle off and on anywhere from four to eight times an hour. Here at Vaughan, we strive to ensure the longevity of your home comfort system. The easiest way to do this is to have annual maintenance checks, which allows us to make sure that everything is running at full efficacy and efficiency. We offer VaughanCare Plans that allow for regular, discounted precision tune-ups – learn more.
How long should my home HVAC system last?
The average life expectancy of a home heating and cooling system varies widely. Has the system been annually checked, cleaned and maintained? Was it sized and installed properly in your home? According to consumer reports, the average life expectancy is 12-15 years.
My heating or cooling system has stopped working – what should I do?
Begin with your thermostat – is it on? Is the screen displaying? If not, check the batteries. You should replace your batteries once a year. If the thermostat is working, try these next steps. If you’re checking the Heat, make sure that the switch is set to Heat; that the temperature is set above the current room temperature; and that the Fan is set to Auto. If you’re checking the A/C, make sure that that switch is set to Cool and that the temperature is set below the current room temperature. Next, check that the switch on the equipment is set to “On,” and that the breaker is not tripped. If your system is still not working, contact Vaughan for service – (856) 627-0303.
Will my equipment work with the power out?
No. Furnaces, boilers, ac units and even tankless water heaters will not work without electricity to the home, unless you have a generator.
It’s 100 degrees out and my A/C keeps running. It won’t shut off – is there something wrong?
Home cooling equipment installed in New Jersey is sized to a 92-degree outside temperature. If temperatures exceed 92 degrees, then the system will run continuously in its efforts to cool the home. If the temperature drops below 92 degrees, then it should cycle normally again.
It’s 14 degrees out and my heat keeps running. It won’t shut off – is there something wrong?
Home heating equipment installed in New Jersey is sized to a 15-degree outside temperature. If the temperature drops below 15 degrees, then the system will run continuously in its efforts to heat the home. If the temperature rises above 15 degrees, then it should cycle normally again.
My digital thermostat screen is blank – what should I do?

Most digital thermostats run on battery power. When the batteries get low, the screen will go blank and the heat or A/C may not work. Refer to the manufacturer’s instructions on how to chance the batteries in your thermostat. Ideally, you should replace your thermostat batteries once a year.

My fan is running all the time – how can I stop it?
Begin with the thermostat. Confirm that the Fan switch is set to the “Auto” position and not the “On” position. If the Fan switch is in the Auto position and the blower is still running, there may be an issue with the heater. Contact Vaughan at (856) 627-0303 to request a service call.
Are all your technicians trained? What kind and how much training do they receive?

Replacement FAQ

What brands of equipment does Vaughan install?
Vaughan installs a variety of high-quality brands. We believe in offering our customers options that vary in price, but not in reliability, efficacy, or quality. We carry Trane, Coleman, and Rheem furnaces and air conditioners; Bradford white hot water heaters; Navien tankless hot water heaters; Bosch combi boilers, and Buderus boilers- just to name a few. When it comes to electronic air cleaners, humidifiers and thermostats we rely on Honeywell, Nexia and Trane products.
How much do you charge for an estimate?
We provide free estimates for any new, replacement, or upgraded home comfort system. We also offer free energy assessments that coincide with the Home Performance with Energy Star Program. Contact Us to schedule your NO Cost Estimate today!
What kind of warranties do you offer with home heating and cooling system installations?
A Vaughan Parts and Labor warranty is included with every job we perform. As a full-service HVAC company, we stand by our installs and are committed to absolute customer satisfaction. Beyond our own Vaughan warranty, our manufacturers offer various warranties on their equipment – for example, Trane and Rheem offer 10-year parts warranties, and Coleman offers a 10-year parts and labor warranty.
How long will my home heating and cooling system installation take?
The length of time an installation takes depends on the system being installed. For example – an upgraded home air conditioning system installation can take one full working day, while a brand-new HVAC installation under the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® program can take five days to install. However long an installation takes, we are committed to performing the work with as little as disruption to you as possible. Learn more about our Replacement Process

Can I save on my utility bills with a new system installation?
Quite possibly, yes. The age of your HVAC system greatly affects the amount of energy your home uses. If your current system is 15-20 years old, a newer system would be more efficient, thereby reducing your energy bills. Vaughan offers home energy assessments, which would scan your entire home for possible energy leaks and savings. You could also take advantage of the state’s Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® program, which would give your whole home an energy efficiency update.
What is the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® program and how do I qualify?
The Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® (HPWES) program is a New Jersey state program that aims to make homes more energy efficient by upgrading your HVAC system, water heater and the quality of insulation in the home. The state offers incentives to homeowners for participating in this program. To qualify, you would need to sign up for a free home energy assessment. Learn more about this program at NJcleanenergy.com
Are there any rebates available on new equipment?

The WARMAdvantage Program provides rebates for high efficiency home heating systems and/or water heaters. To be eligible you must purchase, install and operate a heating system and/or water heater that meets all applicable efficiency requirements.

The COOLAdvantage Program provides rebates for energy efficient central air conditioners or heat pumps as well as “best practices” on proper sizing and installation that affect operating efficiency.

How long does it take to get my rebate check?

Vaughan will file all the necessary paperwork for your rebate. Please allow up to 120 days from the date we submit your application for rebate payment.

Do I need to apply for a work permit for the work to be performed in my home?

Vaughan will apply for all the necessary work permits required for the installation. The cost of the work permit will be included in the estimate. We take care of submitting payment to the township, all you have to do is schedule the final home inspection with your city/township once the work is complete.

Who calls for the inspections once installation is complete?
Once installation is complete, it is the responsibility of the homeowner to schedule the final inspection. The inspection will be conducted through the borough or township in which the permit was pulled. To assist our customers in fulfilling this obligation, Vaughan will provide a copy of the work permit along with all the information (including contact phone number) needed to schedule the inspection.
What are the advantages of a programmable thermostat?
Electronic, programmable thermostats are more accurate and efficient than thermostats that contain mercury. Programmable thermostats allow you to automatically control the temperature in your home at different times of day without being physically present. For example, when you leave for work you can set your home temperature to an energy-efficient one.
What are the potential dangers of operating your system with a cracked heat exchanger?
A crack in the heat exchanger might allow carbon monoxide to escape into your home. Symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include dizziness, light-headedness, flu-like symptoms, or even death by asphyxiation. This is an extremely dangerous situation to have in your home, because the effects of carbon monoxide poisoning may be gradual and undetected.
How much does a new replacement home heating or cooling system cost?

A home’s HVAC system if very complex, comfort equipment is available by different manufacturers that vary in price, efficiency and quality. We also must consider size of your home, the quality of its insulation and your personal preference for temperature.

These factors make it difficult to give you a quote over the phone or on our website. However, we understand your need to plan and budget; visit our Replacement Pricing for helpful links

Here at Vaughan, we encourage all our customers to learn about what it takes to ensure a quality comfort system experience. True value comes down to quality engineering, precise workmanship, a written guarantee, and service after the sale. It takes all of this, plus a competitive price, to ensure 100% satisfaction.

What types of financing do you offer?

Vaughan offers several financing options with approved credit. Options include special financing for 12 months with approved credit through Wells Fargo, and up to 84 months through the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® program. Visit our Payment Options page for current offers.

Do I have to replace all of my home heating or cooling equipment at the same time?

We highly recommend that you do in order to ensure optimal performance and efficiency, we will have to replace all the parts of a home HVAC system at the same time. Attempting to piece together a system with new and older equipment may appear to save money, but could contribute to service problems later on.

  • Best HVAC contractors I ever had

“Amazing customer service. From start to finish the team was professional and went above and beyond. They answered all my questions and ensured everything was done in an extremely professional manner. Marcus and Jeff were two of the best HVAC contractors I ever had. They replaced our entire Air Conditioning Coil and Outdoor Condenser. They even trouble shot the board when attaching to the existing furnace. I will recommend Vaughan heating and air going forward. Request Marcus and Jeff.”

  • Team was very kind and knowledgeable

“We were having a toilet replaced in our main bathroom. Vaughan responded promptly to my quote request and the Team was very kind and knowledgeable regarding the questions I was asking. They emailed the estimate when they said they were going to email, they called back when they said they were going to call back, and they showed up right on time the day of the install. The plumber was very neat with his work area, kept us updated as the work progressed and finished in a timely manner. I would recommend them.”
